Over the past seven years Kehm Design & Consulting has assisted builders and private clients with plan preparation and consulting services for hundreds of new homes. Our knowledge of Passive House methods and prescriptive code combined with hands on construction experience gives us an edge as home designers. Our deep understanding of the practical applications of our drawings, as well as the materials and methods required to build a home has given us the unique ability to recommend and find alternative materials and methods that have saved homeowners and builders thousands in construction cost while exceeding minimum code requirements. We have successfully created a niche for specializing in difficult projects and stringent municipalities.
Our Mission is to deliver quality home plans to our client. Our detail plans and knowledge of the practical applications of our plans affords us the ability to make material and method suggestions to meet or exceed expectations.
We are dedicated to designing high quality and efficient homes, saving our clients thousands of dollars while lowering our carbon footprint. We promote and encourage Passive Housing, the highest standard in energy efficiency on the market today.
Bryan Kehm grew up in the rural Pennsylvania in the Germansville (Lehigh Valley) area. While still in high school in the mid 1980’s he began his construction career working for local contractors in the summer and after school. In the early 1990’s, after graduating from Northwestern Lehigh High School with honors and Lehigh Carbon Technical School majoring in construction technology, he began his career as a builder /framing contractor. By age 20 he was self employed and managed a successful company with five full time employees framing residential homes for many builders in the Pennsylvania and New Jersey area.
After sustaining a lower back injury, he shifted career paths and began providing home plans for some of the previous builders and clients he was framing for. Self taught in Auto-Cad, he began educating himself via seminars and college courses, with an emphasis on structure and code compliance. He began working for Stampfl Associates in King of Prussia shortly thereafter in their Residential Architecture Department. With the state wide adoption of the International Building Codes in 2003, he became a licensed one and two family building inspector through the ICC and the PA Department of Labor & Industry.
In 2003 he began working for LTS Builders in the Poconos in their Architecture Department. By 2006 he was the supervisor of a three to five person team and was responsible for quality control, code and structure, reviewing structure, and code compliance for all plans permitted and built in the years 2004 - 2006. At the end of 2006 he was recruited by a local architecture firm MKSD Architects to lead a residential division to a then primarily commercial/institutional architectural firm. After successfully completing over 100 residential projects he left to pursue his own business, Kehm Design & Consulting LLC.
